Botanical Park & Gardens of Crete

You can explore nearly 20 hectares of land brimming with fruit trees, herbs, medicinal and ornamental plants from around the globe. This one-of-a-kind park boasts a unique landscape shaped by the land’s formation and the region’s microclimate, creating a haven for hundreds of plants and animals.

A burnt centennial olive tree stands as a memorial to the devastating fires of 2003 and serves as a reminder of the park’s history and origin. Located just 18 kilometers outside Chania, this new and exciting site offers something for visitors of all ages, offering an escape from the noise of the city and trendy beaches.

The Botanical Park is a scenic trek through nature’s paths that allows visitors to get acquainted with the numerous different plants and trees that grow on the well-designed planted hillside. Marked paths lead to various sections of the park, including tropical trees, fruit-bearing trees, citrus trees, herbs, and vineyards. The lush landscape is complemented by a lake in the lower part of the park, offering a haven for ducks, geese, and other water birds.

The park’s open-air amphitheater provides the perfect setting for small events. Throughout the year, you can enjoy flowers, plants, and trees through all phases of their life-cycle, attracting various species of wild flora and fauna each season. In the summer, it’s best to visit early in the morning to avoid the strong heat and complete your experience with a delicious meal at the park’s organic and seasonal restaurant, which follows a totally local philosophy.
